Fitted sheets vs Flat sheets (Differences and uses)

Fitted Sheets vs Flat sheets, what makes them different? Which should you be using?

When it comes to using fitted or flat sheets, it all boils down to personal preference (to be honest). And if you’re torn between which to go for, or whether you should go for both read on to clear your doubts, confusion or frustration.

Difference

Fitted sheets are pretty self-explanatory; they have sewn corners that hug your mattress snuggly. And Flat Sheets on the other hand are, well, like a bigger handkerchief (Square or rectangular) with plain edges that can cover your mattress.

Uses

While you can use both your fitted or flat sheet to cover your mattress, a fitted sheet would hug your mattress all through the night regardless of what type of sleeper you are (E.g. The turner or gymnast). But a flat sheet on the other hand would look rough when you wake up, so you’d need to straighten it out every time you get out of bed.

You can decide to use just a fitted sheet to cover your mattress, and you can also choose to use a flat one if you wouldn’t mind re-tucking it every now and then.

Alternatively, you can use both a fitted sheet and a flat sheet. Here’s how:

You’d cover your mattress with a fitted sheet, so it protects your mattress from wear and tear, and it also protects your skin and gives you extra comfort while you sleep.

Then you’d lay a flat sheet on your fitted sheet before you lay your duvet or comforter. That would protect your duvet/comforter/duvet cover from stains, so you wouldn’t have to wash them/it frequently.

Using both a fitted and flat sheet is also a plus for hot sleepers as that’s an added layer of warmth and protection.

Conclusion

You can try using a fitted sheet, flat sheet or the combo to see which you’d prefer.
